Suspected Nuclear Cargo Intercepted on Pak-bound Ship from China at Mumbai Port

Security agencies at Mumbai's Nhava Sheva port intercepted a ship bound for Karachi from China in January due to suspicions of carrying items for Pakistan's nuclear and ballistic missile program. The Malta-flagged merchant ship, CMA CGM Attila, was halted on January 23 after customs officials acted on intelligence input. The consignment, including a Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machine, was examined by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), confirming its potential use in Pakistan's nuclear program. Discrepancies in shipping details raised concerns about attempts to conceal the true recipients. Investigations revealed the consignment, initially labeled for "Pakistan Wings Pvt Ltd," was actually intended for Cosmos Engineering in Pakistan. This incident underscores ongoing concerns about illicit procurement activities, with previous seizures indicating a pattern of dual-use military-grade items being shipped from China to Pakistan. The investigation aims to determine connections to Pakistan's Defence Science and Technology Organisation (DESTO). #nationalgossip
