BJD and BJP Hint at Pre-Poll Alliance in Odisha; Congress Criticizes Alleged Collaboration

In a recent development, the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have hinted at the possibility of forming a pre-poll alliance in Odisha ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. This speculation arose following extensive discussions held by both parties.

BJD’s Vice-president and MLA, Debi Prasad Mishra, acknowledged discussions about a potential alliance with the BJP but refrained from confirming its formation explicitly. Mishra emphasized that the BJD would prioritize the greater interests of the people of Odisha in any decision regarding alliances.

Similarly, BJP leader Jual Oram, after a meeting chaired by party president JP Nadda in Delhi, admitted to discussions regarding a pre-poll alliance with the BJD. However, he clarified that the final decision would be made by the party’s central leadership.

Meanwhile, the Congress has criticized the alleged collaboration between the BJD and BJP, labeling them as “two sides of the same coin.” Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh expressed skepticism, stating that the opposition between the two parties is merely superficial, with the BJD allegedly supporting the BJP in Parliament.

Despite previous denials from both parties regarding reports of a potential alliance, speculations have intensified following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visit to Odisha. During his visit, PM Modi inaugurated various development projects worth over ₹19,600 crore in Jajpur district.

While no formal announcement has been made regarding the alliance, political discussions continue to swirl in Odisha as the Lok Sabha elections draw nearer.
