India Saves 250 People Caught in Cyber Scam in Cambodia: MEA Steps In

Amidst reports of Indian citizens facing difficulties in Cambodia after being promised jobs but coerced into illegal cyber activities, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced on Saturday that it is working closely with Cambodian authorities. Around 250 Indians have been successfully “rescued and repatriated,” with 75 of them returning home in the last three months alone, according to a statement by the MEA.

“We have seen media reports on Indian nationals stuck in Cambodia. Our Embassy in Cambodia has been promptly responding to complaints from Indian nationals who were lured with employment opportunities to that country but were forced to undertake illegal cyber work,” it said.

“Collaborating closely with Cambodian authorities, it has rescued and repatriated about 250 Indians, of which 75 in just the last three months,” MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal was quoted as saying in the statement.

MEA assures help to Indian nationals stuck in scams. Several advisories issued by the ministry and the Embassy of India in Cambodia warn about such scams. The statement responds to media queries. MEA remains committed to aiding Indian nationals in Cambodia and collaborating with Cambodian authorities and Indian agencies to crack down on fraudsters. Earlier, law enforcement agencies took action after reports of Indian nationals being lured to Russia and forced into conflict in Ukraine. Several arrests were made following raids across India. MEA urges citizens to verify all details before leaving the country, especially for jobs.
