US Immigration Wraps Up H1B Visa Lottery for FY 2025, Notifying Successful Applicants

The US immigration agency has finished the lottery to pick winners for sought-after American H1B visas. This happened after the first H1B sign-up phase for the fiscal year 2025 ended on March 25, as per the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). In a post on their platform, USCIS confirmed that selections were made randomly and notifications were sent to ‘myUSCIS’ accounts.

Before, there was a problem with the USCIS website, so they extended the deadline for visa applications for the 2025 year by three days, from March 22 to March 25. Even with this delay, USCIS promised to contact people to make sure they could still apply for a visa under the H1B limit.

Every year, more people want H-1B visas than there are available, so USCIS uses a lottery to pick who gets them. Recently, lots of Indian tech workers have gotten these visas, making up over 70% of the total, including those for people with advanced degrees from US schools.

But USCIS thinks fewer people will apply this year because they’re working harder to stop fake applications. From next month, they’ll change where people send their application forms, and they won’t accept any sent to the old place after April 1, 2024.

“We’re always trying to make sure things are fair and to stop fraud,” said USCIS Director Ur M. Jaddou in January. “These changes should make it fairer for everyone applying for H-1B visas, and everything will be done online from the start to finish.”
