Gurdwara Staffer Shot Dead in Uttarakhand, SIT Formed for Probe

Early on Thursday morning, a tragic incident unfolded at the Nanakmatta Gurdwara in Uttarakhand as Baba Tarsem Singh, the kar seva pramukh, was fatally shot by two masked assailants. The victim had previously expressed concerns about his safety, highlighting a threat to his life in a social media post.

The Uttarakhand Director General of Police confirmed the incident, stating that information about the murder was received at 7 am. According to reports, the assailants, riding on a bike, approached Baba Tarsem Singh on the gurdwara premises and opened fire, leading to his demise.

In response to the incident, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter. Senior officials have been deployed to the scene, and the Police Headquarters has instructed the Special Task Force (STF) to prioritize the investigation and explore all possible angles.

Speaking on the identification of the assailants, the DGP emphasized the need to uncover any potential conspiracy behind the murder. Additionally, he mentioned reaching out to central agencies for assistance in gathering relevant information.

Baba Tarsem Singh’s tragic fate comes after he raised concerns about his safety on social media. In a Facebook post dated February 16, he alleged threats to his life and expressed dismay over malicious accusations leveled against him by the gurdwara committee’s Facebook page. He urged for personal discussions to address any complaints against him, stressing the seriousness of the situation.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community and raised questions about security measures at religious institutions. As investigations continue, authorities are focused on ensuring justice for Baba Tarsem Singh and bringing the perpetrators to account for their actions.
