CBI to Seek Arvind Kejriwal Custody After ED Remand in Liquor Policy Case

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is preparing to seek the custody of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal following the conclusion of his remand with the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the liquor policy case, sources revealed on Wednesday.

Arvind Kejriwal, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Chief, was arrested by the ED on March 21 in connection with a money laundering case related to the now-defunct liquor policy. He has been remanded to ED custody until March 28.

According to sources, once the remand period with the ED expires, the CBI intends to submit an application seeking custody of Kejriwal.

The Enforcement Directorate today requested the Delhi High Court for additional time to respond to Kejriwal plea challenging his arrest. The agency’s representative, S V Raju, sought three weeks to file a reply to the petition, citing its substantial volume and recent receipt.

Kejriwal’s arrest came after a court in Delhi remanded him to the ED custody for further interrogation, following the High Court denial of interim protection against coercive measures.

The ED alleges that Kejriwal played a pivotal role in orchestrating the Delhi excise policy scam, including its formulation, soliciting bribes, and managing illicit proceeds. However, both Kejriwal and the AAP have vehemently refuted these accusations, claiming a lack of evidence implicating him in any wrongdoing.

Meanwhile, Sunita Kejriwal, Arvind Kejriwal wife, announced today that her husband would unveil the truth surrounding the liquor policy case during his court appearance on Thursday. She expressed confidence in revealing the details concerning the alleged proceeds of crime associated with the so-called liquor scam.

The developments in Kejriwal case have drawn significant attention, with many eagerly awaiting the outcome of the legal proceedings.
