In a significant development concerning the ongoing controversy surrounding the Delhi liquor scam, Sunita Kejriwal, the wife of incarcerated Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, has declared plans for her husband to address the accusations in court.
During a brief press briefing held on Wednesday, Sunita Kejriwal disclosed that Arvind Kejriwal will present a detailed rebuttal regarding the purported Delhi liquor scam on Thursday, March 28. This announcement follows Sunita Kejriwal’s visit to her husband at the Directorate of Enforcement (ED) office on Tuesday evening.
Arvind Kejriwal was apprehended by the ED on March 21 in connection with the Delhi excise policy case, which has been linked to a money laundering investigation. Subsequently, he was remanded to the custody of the ED until March 28.
The case revolves around alleged irregularities and money laundering associated with the formulation and implementation of the Delhi excise policy in 2022, which was later nullified. Allegations of procedural lapses were raised in a report submitted by Delhi Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar to Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena in July 2022.
According to the report, unilateral decisions made by Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, who served as the Excise Minister, purportedly led to substantial financial losses to the exchequer, estimated at over ₹580 crore. Sisodia was subsequently arrested based on the findings of the report.
Although Arvind Kejriwal was not initially named in the FIRs registered by the ED or the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with the Delhi excise policy case, his name was mentioned in the ED’s chargesheet. The agency alleged that Kejriwal engaged in a video call with one of the main accused, Sameer Mahendru, instructing him to continue collaborating with co-accused and AAP communications-in-charge Vijay Nair.
As anticipation mounts for Arvind Kejriwal forthcoming response, which is expected to address the allegations surrounding the Delhi liquor scam, the case continues to attract public attention and scrutiny.
