Protesting farmers conducted rail roko demonstrations at 85 locations in Punjab on Sunday, organized by the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha (KMM) and the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM). However, in Haryana and Rajasthan, several farmers were allegedly detained by police in some areas.

The protests, which lasted for four hours from noon to 4 pm, were organized at 85 locations in Punjab by the KMM and SKM, while five other farmer unions under the SKM banner arranged protests at 10 additional sites. The demonstrations aimed to highlight various issues affecting farmers, including demands for guaranteed minimum support prices (MSP) and justice for recent incidents involving farmers.

Despite police intervention in some areas, including Dabwali and Ellenabad in Haryana, and Dausa in Rajasthan, farmers were released later in the evening. The rail roko led to the cancellation and disruption of train services, affecting 49 trains in Punjab alone.

While the protests were largely peaceful, farmers expressed their grievances regarding the government’s policies and the need for immediate action on their demands. The ongoing agitation at the Shambhu border continued alongside the rail roko, emphasizing the persistence of the farmers’ movement.

The protests underscored the nationwide solidarity among farmers and their determination to secure their rights and livelihoods amidst ongoing challenges and government policies.
