Prime Minister Narendra Modi made history by taking a ride on Kolkata’s first underwater Metro tunnel, accompanied by enthusiastic school students. This inaugural journey, marked by engaging conversations with the students, highlights a significant step forward in India’s infrastructure development.
The Kolkata Metro extension, particularly the Howrah Maidan-Esplanade section, symbolizes a remarkable achievement in transportation, featuring the country’s inaugural underwater tunnel beneath a major river.
During the same event, PM Modi inaugurated multiple projects worth Rs. 15,400 crores in Kolkata. Among these projects were the Kavi Subhash – Hemanta Mukhopadhyay and Taratala – Majerhat Metro sections. The latter is noteworthy for the Majerhat Metro Station, a unique architectural marvel designed to enhance urban mobility.
Additionally, PM Modi launched various national projects, including the Pune Metro stretch, Kochi Metro Rail Phase I Extension, Agra Metro stretch, and the Duhai-Modinagar section of the Delhi-Meerut RRTS Corridor.
