CBSE Class 12 Physics Exam: Students found it tricky and lengthy

The CBSE Class 12 Physics Exam held on March 4 elicited mixed reactions from students across various regions. Descriptions from students and educators provide insights into the paper’s difficulty, lengthiness, and content.

Students found the exam to be challenging, with many describing it as tricky and lengthy. Multiple-choice questions (MCQs) were particularly noted for their difficulty. The overall consensus was that the paper fell within the moderate to tough range in terms of difficulty level.

Poonam Soni, Head of Department (HOD) of Science at Manav Rachna International School, Sector 46, Gurugram, emphasized the inherent complexity of Physics exams due to the subject’s conceptual nature. She noted that while the paper was of average difficulty, it required application-based thinking and was moderately lengthy. Soni also highlighted that students who had a comprehensive understanding of the concepts were more likely to perform well. She further commented on the presence of tricky and time-consuming questions, especially in the MCQ and case-based sections, and mentioned that five-marker questions were based on NCERT textbooks. Sections C and D were designed to evaluate students’ analytical, inferential, and logical skills through competency-based questions.

In Lucknow, students echoed the sentiment of the paper being lengthy. Aditya Bajpai from LPS South City described it as standard but long, noting an imbalance in the distribution of moderate and easy questions.

Disha Chilani and Lipika Charu from LPS, South City, shared their experiences with the paper. Chilani found the paper a bit challenging, particularly the MCQ and assertion reason section, although she managed to complete it within the allotted time. Charu described the paper as moderate, finding sections D and E relatively easier but facing difficulties with tricky MCQs.

Ajay Kumar, a student from LPS Sector 1, rated the paper as tough. While he found Section E to be the scoring section and Section A manageable, he encountered challenges with Sections B and C, which contained numerous numerical and conceptual questions. He noted that the case study section was particularly rich in numerical content.

Kuldeep Singh, a teacher from GMSSS Sector 16 in Chandigarh, considered the paper to be of average difficulty. He emphasized the significance of numerical questions and anticipated the exam to have lower scores.

Singh also mentioned that this year’s Physics paper was tougher compared to previous years, indicating a potential shift in the examination pattern or content.

Adhiraj, a student at Vivek High School in Sector 38, Chandigarh, found the paper challenging, especially when compared to the level of NCERT books and sample papers. He noted a higher focus on numerical-based questions, likening the difficulty level to that of the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main exam.

The CBSE Class 12 Physics Exam of March 4 was perceived as a challenging test of students’ understanding and application of concepts, with a notable emphasis on numerical problems and analytical skills.
