Kumar Alankrit, a 24-year-old software engineer residing in Bengaluru, found himself in the midst of a terrifying ordeal when an improvised explosive device (IED) detonated at the bustling Rameshwaram Cafe. He had just finished enjoying a plate of idli and was about to savor a dosa when his phone rang, bearing the familiar tone of his mother’s voice. Little did he know that this seemingly routine call would prove to be a lifesaver.
Moved by the maternal instinct to check on her son’s well-being, Kumar’s mother unknowingly prompted him to step away from the bustling cafe scene, creating a crucial distance between him and the impending explosion. As Kumar conversed with his mother, a mere 10 to 15 meters from where the blast occurred, the force of the detonation rocked the establishment, sending shockwaves rippling through the bustling eatery.
In the immediate aftermath, confusion reigned supreme as patrons and bystanders grappled to comprehend the nature of the calamity that had befallen them. Initially dismissing the explosion as a routine domestic gas cylinder mishap, Kumar joined the ranks of those attempting to render aid to the injured.
It wasn’t until the evening news broadcasts illuminated the true nature of the incident that Kumar’s perception shifted, realizing the gravity of the situation he had narrowly escaped.
