Former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and YSR Congress Party president Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has asserted that recent statistics released by the Reserve Bank of India conclusively expose the false narratives propagated by the Telugu Desam Party and Jana Sena Party regarding the state’s industrial performance. Addressing allegations that the YSRCP government destroyed “Brand AP” and deterred investors between 2019 and 2024, Jagan Mohan Reddy stated that verified national data presents a sharply contrasting and fact-based assessment.
Manufacturing Growth Reflects Structural Economic Strength
According to RBI statistics released this month, Andhra Pradesh ranked first in South India and fifth nationally in terms of Gross Value Added in the manufacturing sector during the 2019–24 period. This performance, achieved amid national and global economic disruptions, reflects sustained policy implementation and industrial continuity. Jagan Mohan Reddy noted that if allegations of economic collapse were accurate, such consistent growth in manufacturing would not have been possible.
Industry Sector Performance Counters Opposition Claims
In addition to manufacturing, RBI data indicates that Andhra Pradesh stood first in South India and eighth in the country in overall industry sector growth during the same period. These figures directly contradict claims that the state witnessed industrial stagnation or investor flight. The former Chief Minister emphasised that industry growth is a long-term indicator that reflects infrastructure readiness, regulatory stability, and governance credibility.
Fact-Based Governance Versus Political Rhetoric
Jagan Mohan Reddy questioned whether opposition narratives were driven by political convenience rather than empirical evidence. He stated that public discourse must rely on institutional data rather than repetitive allegations. “Is this destruction of Brand AP or the outcome of transformative leadership?” he asked, underlining the importance of accountability rooted in facts rather than rhetoric.
Concerns Over Public Assets and Healthcare Institutions
The YSRCP president also raised serious concerns over the present government’s alleged attempts to privatise government medical colleges, which he described as valuable public assets meant to serve the poor. He alleged that such moves had triggered widespread public opposition, with over one crore citizens reportedly signing representations against the proposal, later submitted to the Governor. Jagan Mohan Reddy stressed that healthcare infrastructure should remain accessible and affordable rather than being transferred to private interests.
Political Accountability and Leadership Conduct
Commenting on political leadership styles, Jagan Mohan Reddy criticised Jana Sena Party chief Pawan Kalyan’s public conduct, stating that his speeches often lack coherence and clarity. He further questioned whether the intensity of defence mounted by certain leaders indicated deeper personal stakes in controversial policy decisions. These remarks, he asserted, were aimed at demanding transparency rather than personal confrontation.
Conclusion: Evidence Over Allegations
The RBI data, Jagan Mohan Reddy concluded, serves as an authoritative rebuttal to claims of economic mismanagement during the YSRCP government. As Andhra Pradesh navigates its future development path, the former Chief Minister emphasised that informed governance, institutional data, and public accountability must remain central to political debate. Sustainable development, he said, cannot be assessed through slogans but through verified performance indicators.
