Chintapalle in Alluri Sitharama Raju (ASR) district recorded the coldest morning of the current winter season on Friday, with the minimum temperature plunging to 5.2 degrees Celsius. The temperature was recorded at the Regional Agriculture Research Station (RARS) in Chintapalle, marking the fifth instance this season when minimum temperatures dropped to single digits across several parts of the district. Residents reported intense cold conditions during the night and early morning hours, reflecting the severity of the ongoing winter spell.

According to RARS authorities, the district has been witnessing a consistent decline in night temperatures over the past few weeks. The primary weather station recorded 6.8°C on November 19, 6°C on December 9, and further dropped to 5.2°C on December 12. Officials noted that the cold wave is likely to intensify in the coming days, with minimum temperatures expected to fall further across multiple mandals in the district.

Several Mandals Record Near-Freezing Conditions

Parts of Dumbriguda, Pedabayalu, and Munchingiputtu mandals recorded temperatures below 5°C on Friday, while many other regions in the district saw minimum temperatures dipping below 10°C. Such conditions have significantly impacted early morning activities, especially in hilly and tribal areas where exposure to cold is more severe. Authorities have been closely monitoring the situation as the region remains vulnerable to extreme winter conditions.

Historical Low Highlights Severity of Current Winter

Chintapalle has previously recorded extreme winter temperatures, including a historic low of 1.5°C on January 8, 2023. While the current season has not yet reached that level, meteorological experts note that the persistent decline indicates a strong winter pattern. Comparisons with past years underline the need for preparedness, particularly in remote and high-altitude areas of the ASR district.

Dense Fog Disrupts Road Safety and Daily Movement

A thick blanket of fog enveloped several parts of the ASR district on Friday morning, significantly reducing visibility on major roads. Motorists reported near-zero visibility during early hours, making travel risky and leading to slow-moving traffic. Drivers have been advised to exercise caution, especially during early morning and late-night hours when fog density remains high.

Health Advisory Issued as Cold Conditions Persist

Medical professionals have advised residents to take preventive measures against the cold. Doctors recommend wearing loose-fitting layered clothing, maintaining adequate nutrition, and limiting exposure to cold during early morning hours. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), similar cold conditions were reported in Vizag, Kalingapatam, Amaravati, Jangamaheswarapuram, Kurnool, and other parts of Andhra Pradesh, indicating a statewide cold wave pattern.
