In a significant development ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, the Mahagathbandhan alliance in Bihar is poised to announce its seat-sharing formula today. This alliance, comprising the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Congress, and Left parties, is expected to reveal the distribution of seats among its constituents.
Sources close to the negotiations suggest that the RJD is set to contest 26 seats, with the Congress likely to receive nine and the Left parties five seats. The anticipated announcement is scheduled to take place at the RJD office in Patna, where state-level leaders of the participating parties will disclose the finalized arrangement.
Under the proposed seat-sharing deal, the Congress is anticipated to secure nine constituencies, including Katihar, Kishanganj, Patna Sahib, Sasaram, Bhagalpur, Bettiah, Muzaffarpur, Samastipur, and Maharajganj. Meanwhile, the RJD, led by Lalu Yadav, is expected to acquire Palamu and Chatra seats in neighboring Jharkhand.
Furthermore, it is speculated that the Communist Party of India Liberation may be allocated Karakat, Arrah, and Nalanda seats. The Communist Party of India and the Communist Party of India are likely to secure Begusarai and Khagaria seats, respectively.
Prior to this announcement, negotiations between the Congress and the RJD encountered obstacles due to disagreements over the latter’s unilateral distribution of tickets. However, both parties appear to have reached a consensus in finalizing the seat-sharing arrangement.
The Lok Sabha elections in Bihar are scheduled to be held across seven phases on April 19, 26, May 7, 13, 20, 25, and June 1, with vote counting slated for June 4. In the previous 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the Congress secured only one seat, while the NDA alliance, comprising the BJP and Janata Dal, emerged victorious by securing a significant number of seats.
This announcement marks a crucial milestone in Bihar political landscape, setting the stage for a closely contested electoral battle as the Mahagathbandhan gears up to challenge the incumbent NDA alliance.
