Former Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) from the Commissioner’s Task Force, along with another police official, faced questioning on Thursday in connection with a case involving phone tapping and destruction of computer systems and official data.
The investigation into the matter intensified as the Telangana government recently suspended Praneeth Rao, a key figure allegedly involved in the case. Rao, a former DSP, was accused of erasing intelligence information from electronic devices and engaging in unauthorized phone tapping during the previous government’s tenure.
On March 13, Praneeth Rao was arrested for allegedly developing profiles of individuals and clandestinely monitoring them without authorization, in addition to destroying certain computer systems and official data.
The case has also drawn attention to the alleged involvement of high-ranking officials like T Prabhakar Rao, the former chief of the Special Intelligence Bureau (SIB), and P Radhakrishna, a former deputy commissioner of police at the Commissioner’s Task Force, who are suspected to have fled abroad to evade investigation.
Praneeth Rao’s suspension and the subsequent investigation shed light on the issue of phone tapping, especially concerning opposition party leaders. The case was filed based on a complaint by an additional superintendent of police, accusing Rao and others of criminal breach of trust, disappearance of evidence, and criminal conspiracy.
The accused were allegedly involved in destroying computer systems and official data obtained through illegal means, as well as developing profiles of individuals and monitoring them without proper authorization. This raised concerns about the misuse of intelligence information for personal gain.
The ongoing investigation aims to uncover the extent of the alleged wrongdoing and hold those responsible accountable. With significant figures from the police force implicated, the case underscores the importance of upholding ethical standards and ensuring transparency within law enforcement agencies.
