T.N. School Education Minister Firmly Opposes National Education Policy

Despite the Tamil Nadu government’s agreement to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the establishment of PM SHRI (Prime Minister Schools for Rising India) schools in the state, Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi reiterated the administration’s steadfast opposition to the National Education Policy, 2020 (NEP 2020).

Poyyamozhi emphasized that the decision to participate in the PM SHRI scheme was solely motivated by the necessity to access Central funds allocated for educational purposes. The PM SHRI initiative aims to revamp existing government schools, transforming them into model institutions aligned with the objectives outlined in the NEP 2020.

However, despite this collaboration, the Tamil Nadu government’s stance against the NEP 2020 remains unchanged. This development underscores the complexity of educational policy dynamics at the intersection of state and central governance in India, reflecting the nuanced approach taken by regional authorities in navigating federal initiatives while preserving their autonomy and principles.
