The Election Commission is all set to reveal the schedule for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections and some state assemblies tomorrow. The announcement is scheduled to take place during a press conference at 3 pm at New Delhi’s Vigyan Bhawan.

As per the information shared by the Election Commission, the press conference will be livestreamed on their social media platforms. This announcement marks the beginning of the Model Code of Conduct, which comes into effect immediately after the schedule is announced. It includes guidelines for political parties, candidates, and the government during the election period.

The current term of the Lok Sabha is ending on June 16, necessitating the constitution of a new House before that date. Last time, the Lok Sabha elections were announced on March 10 and held in seven phases beginning April 11, with the counting of votes taking place on May 23.

The announcement regarding the poll schedule coincides with the joining of two newly-appointed election commissioners, Gyanesh Kumar and Sukhbir Singh Sandhu, into the Election Commission.

This announcement also sets the stage for the political contest between the PM Narendra Modi-led NDA government and the Congress-led INDIA bloc.

Additionally, the Election Commission revealed that nearly 97 crore people have registered to vote for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, making it the largest electorate in history. This includes the addition of two crore youth electors aged 18 to 29 years.

The completion of the electoral roll revision in Jammu and Kashmir and Assam, along with the delimitation of constituencies, has contributed to achieving inclusivity, health, and purity in the electoral rolls, as stated by the Election Commission earlier this month.
