Hindu and Sikh refugees gathered near Arvind Kejriwal residence, demanding an apology from the Delhi Chief Minister for his remarks against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA). In response, Kejriwal labeled the protesters as “Pakistanis” and questioned their motives.
“The audacity of these Pakistanis! First, they illegally infiltrated our country, breaking our laws. They should have been in jail. They have the audacity to protest in our country, causing unrest?” Kejriwal stated on social media.
The protesters, mainly from Rohini, Adarsh Nagar, near Signature Bridge, and Majnu ka Tilla, expressed their discontent, urging Kejriwal to withdraw his statements against the CAA and refugees and issue an apology.
Kejriwal had previously criticized the BJP, alleging that the party aims to settle minority communities from Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Bangladesh in India through the CAA to create a vote bank.
The CAA, implemented by the Centre, grants citizenship to undocumented non-Muslim migrants from Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan who arrived in India before December 31, 2014.
In response to the protests, Kejriwal accused the BJP of supporting the Pakistani protesters and standing against him, despite being elected by the people of Delhi with a significant mandate.
The situation highlights the ongoing tensions surrounding the CAA and the differing perspectives on its implications for refugees and minority communities in India.
