The Pakistan Aircraft Owners and Operators Association (AOOA) has sounded the alarm on critical challenges plaguing the country’s aviation sector, particularly emphasizing the issue of pilot licenses as a pivotal factor behind the European Union’s ban on Pakistani airlines. In a comprehensive report, the AOOA underscored the urgent need for competent professionals within the industry and proposed viable solutions to address systemic deficiencies.
The association’s critique extended to the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), blaming its mismanagement for the industry’s decline and subsequent international sanctions. Despite efforts to clear pilots of fake license allegations, the AOOA expressed frustration over the CAA’s resistance to accepting judicial decisions, prolonging the ban on airlines.
Furthermore, the AOOA highlighted concerns regarding the lack of stakeholder input in legislative processes and advocated for procedural reforms aimed at boosting revenue generation, including airport outsourcing and streamlining air transport license renewals.
The association also called for policy revisions to alleviate financial burdens on operators, review regulatory authorities’ powers, and reconsider aircraft import restrictions to stimulate industry growth and safeguard employment opportunities. These proposed reforms, outlined in a Dawn report, represent a concerted effort to rejuvenate Pakistan’s aviation sector, mitigate further closures, and foster sustainable growth.
