PM Modi Launches ₹1.25 trillion Semiconductor Projects to Elevate India Tech Sector

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated three semiconductor projects worth approximately ₹1.25 trillion through video conferencing on Wednesday. This significant milestone underscores India’s ambition to emerge as a global hub for semiconductor manufacturing.

The projects include a Semiconductor fabrication facility in Gujarat’s Dholera Special Investment Region (DSIR), Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT) facilities in Assam’s Morigaon and Gujarat’s Sanand.

PM Modi emphasized the importance of these initiatives in advancing India’s position in semiconductor design and technology development, aligning with his vision to create abundant employment opportunities for the country’s youth.

The Dholera facility, to be established by Tata Electronics Private Limited (TEPL), will be India’s first commercial semiconductor fab, with an investment exceeding ₹91,000 crore. Additionally, OSAT facilities in Morigaon and Sanand, spearheaded by TEPL and CG Power and Industrial Solutions Limited respectively, will further bolster India’s semiconductor ecosystem.

These projects are poised to revolutionize India’s tech sector, generating employment opportunities and stimulating growth across allied industries. The initiatives mark a significant step towards realizing India’s potential as a global semiconductor manufacturing powerhouse.
