Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal sparked controversy at a townhall event named ‘Mahila Samman Samaroh’ by advising women not to serve dinner to their husbands if they “chant” Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s name. The event aimed to engage with women following the announcement of a new scheme in the 2024-25 budget, offering a monthly amount of Rs 1,000 to women above 18 years old.
Kejriwal encouraged women to seek support from their families and advocate for him and the AAP. He emphasized his government’s initiatives, such as free electricity and bus tickets, along with the new Rs 1,000 monthly stipend, contrasting them with the BJP’s track record. Kejriwal criticized traditional empowerment tactics, highlighting the need for tangible financial support, which he claims his new scheme provides. He described the program as the “biggest women empowerment program” globally.
