The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress are set to finalize their candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections today. After releasing their initial candidate lists, both parties will hold separate meetings to decide on candidates for the remaining seats.
The BJP’s central election committee will convene in Delhi to discuss candidates for the 2024 polls. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP President JP Nadda, and other senior leaders will attend the meeting.
The BJP has already announced candidates for 195 constituencies, including key states like Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and West Bengal. Notably, over 20% of current MPs have been excluded from the list.
Meanwhile, the Congress Central Election Committee will meet at the party headquarters in Delhi to finalize its second list of candidates. Discussions will focus on constituencies in Karnataka, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Haryana, Tamil Nadu, Delhi, and Madhya Pradesh.
The Lok Sabha elections, expected to take place in April-May, have gained attention amid the recent resignation of election commissioner Arun Goel, leading to two vacancies in the Election Commission. The government aims to fill these positions by March 15.
