Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has taken a decisive step in response to the tragic death of a student at the Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, announcing his recommendation for a CBI inquiry into the matter.
The student, identified as Sidharthan, was discovered deceased in his hostel bathroom in Wayanad. Following a meeting with the victim’s family, CM Vijayan affirmed his commitment to pursuing justice in the case.
The development comes after the suspension of the Vice-Chancellor of the Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University by the Governor earlier on Saturday, in light of the incident.
JS Sidharthan, a second-year degree student, was found hanging inside the college hostel on February 18. His demise sparked allegations from his family, who claimed foul play and disputed the initial classification of the incident as a suicide.
In response to mounting pressure and public outcry, the police made significant progress in the investigation, leading to the arrest of 11 individuals implicated in the case. These individuals stand accused of subjecting the 20-year-old student to ragging and torture prior to his untimely demise.
As the case unfolds, CM Vijayan’s decision to recommend a CBI probe underscores the government’s commitment to ensuring a thorough and impartial investigation into the circumstances surrounding Sidharthan’s tragic death.
