In a recent turn of events, Tejashwi Yadav, leader of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), has come to the defense of his father, Lalu Yadav, amidst a heated debate surrounding remarks made about Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Hindu identity.
The controversy began when Lalu Yadav accused PM Modi of not being a true Hindu, citing his failure to undergo a traditional head shaving ceremony following his mother’s passing. This statement sparked a flurry of reactions, with several Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders adding “Modi ka Parivaar” (Modi’s family) to their social media handles in solidarity with the Prime Minister.
Tejashwi Yadav, however, has shifted the focus away from this rhetoric, accusing the BJP of attempting to divert attention from critical issues such as poverty and unemployment. He emphasized his family’s devout Hindu practices, pointing to his daughter’s tonsure ceremony as an example. Tejashwi questioned why PM Modi did not adhere to similar traditions, thereby challenging the allegations against his family’s religious beliefs.
In response, PM Modi addressed the criticism by condemning familial politics and emphasizing his commitment to serving the nation above personal interests. He argued against the notion of “family first” politics, asserting the importance of prioritizing the nation’s welfare.
Meanwhile, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman expressed disappointment over Lalu Yadav’s remarks, highlighting the need for dignity in political discourse. She emphasized that such comments from a senior leader like Lalu Prasad Yadav are not expected and called for maintaining decorum in public discourse.
