Indonesia Seeks to Strengthen Trade and Investment Ties with Andhra Pradesh

The Consul General of the Republic of Indonesia in Mumbai, Eddy Wardoyo, visited the office of AP Chambers in Vijayawada on Friday and held discussions with its office-bearers and members to explore avenues for strengthening bilateral trade and investment relations between Andhra Pradesh and Indonesia. The interaction focused on identifying sector-specific opportunities and enhancing cooperation between businesses from both regions.

Focus on Agriculture, Food Processing and Manufacturing

During the interaction, Mr. Wardoyo highlighted Andhra Pradesh’s strong capabilities in agriculture, food processing, and manufacturing. He observed that the State’s production base and export potential align well with Indonesia’s market requirements, creating scope for mutually beneficial partnerships. Secondary and tertiary processing in the food processing sector was identified as a key area for collaboration, given the complementarities between the two economies.

Opportunities in Value-Added and Export-Oriented Sectors

The Consul General identified priority sectors for cooperation, including value-added aqua products, palm oil, education, and manufacturing. He noted that Indonesia is keen to work closely with Andhra Pradesh-based exporters and industry bodies to expand trade volumes and diversify export baskets. The emphasis, he said, is on moving beyond raw exports to higher-value products that can generate better returns for businesses.

Indonesia’s Facilitation Measures for Indian Exporters

Mr. Wardoyo outlined several facilitation measures offered by the Indonesian government to Indian exporters. These include providing market intelligence, facilitating business-to-business matchmaking with Indonesian companies, and offering sector-specific incentives. He also highlighted the facilities available in Indonesia’s Special Economic Zones, including zero import and export duties, which can significantly reduce operational costs for exporters.

Strengthening Institutional and Business Engagement

Expressing interest in sustained engagement, the Consul General said working closely with AP Chambers would help create structured platforms for trade promotion, investment flows, and knowledge exchange. Such institutional cooperation, he noted, would enable businesses from Andhra Pradesh to better understand regulatory frameworks, market demand, and investment opportunities in Indonesia.

Way Forward for Andhra Pradesh–Indonesia Relations

The interaction underscored the growing importance of international trade partnerships for Andhra Pradesh’s economic growth. With complementary strengths and supportive policy frameworks, both sides expressed optimism that enhanced cooperation could lead to increased trade volumes, stronger industrial linkages, and long-term economic benefits for businesses in Andhra Pradesh and Indonesia.
