The International Institute of Health Management Research (IIHMR) Delhi has entered into a strategic partnership with the Andhra Pradesh MedTech Zone (AMTZ) to advance education, skill development, and applied research in India’s rapidly expanding medical devices and MedTech sector. The collaboration was formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at aligning academic training with industry requirements.

The partnership seeks to address a long-standing challenge in the healthcare manufacturing sector—the gap between theoretical education and practical, industry-ready skills. By integrating management education, policy expertise, and hands-on exposure to manufacturing ecosystems, the initiative is expected to strengthen workforce preparedness in the MedTech domain.

Satellite Centre at AMTZ Visakhapatnam

As part of the collaboration, IIHMR Delhi will establish a satellite centre at the AMTZ campus in Visakhapatnam. The centre will serve as a hub for executive education programmes, industry-aligned skill courses, and joint academic–industry initiatives designed to meet evolving sectoral needs.

The presence of IIHMR at AMTZ is expected to provide learners with direct exposure to one of India’s most advanced MedTech manufacturing and innovation ecosystems, enabling practical learning alongside management and policy education.

Combining Academic and Manufacturing Strengths

The collaboration brings together IIHMR Delhi’s expertise in health systems management, public health policy, and health economics with AMTZ’s advanced infrastructure for medical device manufacturing, testing, calibration, and innovation. This integrated approach is expected to support applied research and foster solutions relevant to real-world industry challenges.

By combining management education with manufacturing exposure, the partnership aims to produce professionals who are not only technically aware but also equipped to navigate regulatory, economic, and operational complexities in the MedTech sector.

Expanding Career Opportunities in Healthcare

The initiative is expected to create a wider range of career opportunities for students across diverse domains, including healthcare management, MedTech operations, policy analysis, and industry leadership. The introduction of specialised and certified management courses will help develop a skilled talent pool aligned with India’s healthcare manufacturing ambitions.

Commenting on the collaboration, Dr Jitendra Sharma, Managing Director and Founder CEO of AMTZ, said the initiative would address a critical need for trained professionals in the healthcare sector, particularly as India strengthens its position in medical device manufacturing.

MedTech as a Growth Sector

Dr S D Gupta, Trustee Secretary of IIHMR, observed that the coming decade clearly belongs to the medical devices sector. He noted that focused investments in education and skill development would be essential to support innovation, self-reliance, and global competitiveness in MedTech.

The IIHMR Delhi–AMTZ partnership represents a strategic step toward building an industry-ready workforce for India’s MedTech sector. By aligning education, policy expertise, and manufacturing exposure, the collaboration is expected to contribute meaningfully to skill development, innovation, and long-term growth in healthcare manufacturing.
