Former Chief Minister and YSR Congress Party president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry into the demolition of houses at Joji Nagar in Vijayawada. Addressing the media, he alleged that individuals holding influential positions were involved in the demolition, which he said was carried out in violation of court orders.
Mr. Reddy expressed solidarity with the affected families and assured them of legal support, stating that all those responsible for the demolitions would be brought to book.
Allegations of Court Order Violation
Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy pointed out that the residents of Joji Nagar had obtained relief from the court, which was valid until December 31. Despite this, he alleged, the demolitions were carried out with heavy police presence, disregarding the legal protection granted to the residents.
He said the demolition raised serious concerns about adherence to judicial orders and the protection of citizens’ rights.
Claims of High-Level Political Involvement
The YSRCP chief alleged that Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, HRD Minister Nara Lokesh, local MP Kesineni Sivanadh, and a local Jana Sena corporator were behind the demolition drive. According to him, the actions were politically motivated and aimed at dispossessing residents of valuable land.
He stated that 42 families residing in the colony, spread across 2.17 acres of land valued at approximately ₹150 crore, were rendered homeless despite having permissions and regularly paying EMIs.
Pending Supreme Court Case and Police Presence
Mr. Reddy alleged that the demolitions were executed even though the matter was pending before the Supreme Court. He questioned the role of authorities in allowing the demolition to proceed in the presence of a large police force, despite clear legal proceedings being underway.
He said such actions undermined public confidence in governance and legal safeguards.
Allegations of Fabricated Documents
Further, Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy alleged that fake documents were created during Mr. Naidu’s earlier tenure, including the registration of a bogus society with a backdated entry in 2016. He claimed that litigation was artificially created to facilitate the transfer of prime land to private interests.
These allegations, he said, warranted an independent probe by a central agency.
Demand for Accountability and Justice
Calling the incident a serious governance failure, Mr. Reddy reiterated his demand for a CBI investigation to establish accountability. He said the victims would be provided legal assistance by the YSR Congress Party and assured them that justice would be pursued through all available legal avenues.
The matter continues to draw political and public attention as questions over legality, governance, and accountability remain unresolved.
