The Tirupati district police on Monday organised a large-scale helmet awareness bike rally involving around 700 motorcycles as part of the ongoing “No Helmet–No Petrol” campaign. The initiative was aimed at spreading awareness on the importance of wearing helmets and reducing fatal accidents involving two-wheelers, particularly among young riders.

The rally reflects the district administration’s continued focus on road safety and accident prevention through public participation and awareness-driven initiatives.

Rally Flagged Off by District Collector and SP

The rally was flagged off from the police parade ground by District Collector Venkateswar and Superintendent of Police Subba Rayudu. It proceeded through key areas including Annamayya Circle, MR Palli Circle, and Balaji Colony before concluding at the SP office on Prakasam Road.

The route was chosen to maximise public visibility and convey the road safety message to a wide section of commuters and residents.

Senior Officials Lead by Example

During the rally, the Superintendent of Police personally rode a motorcycle, while the District Collector participated by wearing a helmet. Their participation was intended to reinforce the importance of helmet use and responsible riding behaviour.

Officials said leadership by example plays a crucial role in influencing public attitudes toward road safety norms.

Rising Two-Wheeler Accidents a Cause for Concern

Addressing participants, the District Collector said a large number of two-wheeler accidents were being reported due to overspeeding and negligence, especially among young riders. He emphasised that wearing a helmet can significantly reduce the risk of fatal injuries even in serious accidents.

He urged riders to wear helmets not out of fear of penalties but to safeguard their families and loved ones.

Focus on Youth and Responsible Riding

The Collector appealed to youth to ride responsibly and motivate their peers to follow helmet rules. He stressed that creating a culture of safety requires collective responsibility and consistent adherence to traffic norms.

Officials noted that awareness campaigns are critical in changing behavioural patterns among younger road users.

Police Stress Safety Over Penalties

Superintendent of Police Subba Rayudu said helmet use is meant purely for personal safety. He pointed out that a majority of road accident victims fall within the 18 to 35 age group and that the absence of helmets is a major factor in fatal injuries.

The SP reiterated that both riders and pillion riders must wear ISI-marked helmets and clarified that the objective of the campaign is accident prevention, not the collection of fines.

Sustained Awareness Drive to Continue

Police officials said the “No Helmet–No Petrol” campaign will continue with sustained enforcement and awareness activities across the district. The focus remains on saving lives, reducing accident-related fatalities, and encouraging responsible road behaviour.

Authorities expressed hope that continued public engagement will lead to long-term improvements in road safety compliance.
