A suspected case of murder has shocked Maharashtra’s Latur district after the completely burnt body of a young man was found inside a charred car on Vanavada Road in the early hours of Sunday. According to police officials, the victim was discovered stuffed inside a sack and placed in the vehicle before it was deliberately set on fire, pointing to a planned and brutal crime. The incident came to light after emergency services received information about a vehicle engulfed in flames, triggering an immediate response from law enforcement and fire department personnel. The gruesome nature of the discovery has raised serious concerns among local residents, prompting authorities to launch a detailed and multi-angle investigation.

Victim Identified as Ganesh Chavan, a Bank Recovery Agent

Police later identified the deceased as Ganesh Chavan, a resident of Ausa Tanda in Latur district, who was employed as a recovery agent with ICICI Bank. Officials said preliminary information suggests that Chavan had gone missing earlier in the day, after which his phone was found switched off, causing concern among family members and acquaintances. People close to him reportedly attempted to contact him repeatedly, and when those efforts failed, they began searching for information, only to later learn about the burnt vehicle and body discovered on Vanavada Road. Investigators are examining Chavan’s professional and personal background to determine whether his occupation or any prior disputes could have a possible link to the crime.

Emergency Call Leads Police and Fire Services to the Scene

An official statement from the police confirmed that a call was received on Dial 112 at around 12:30 am, reporting a car on fire along Vanavada Road. Responding police personnel rushed to the location and immediately alerted the fire department, which deployed fire tenders to extinguish the blaze. After the flames were brought under control, officers conducted a search of the vehicle and discovered a completely charred body inside. Medical officers were subsequently called to the scene to carry out preliminary examination procedures before the body was shifted for post-mortem.

Post-Mortem Conducted, Body Handed Over to Family

Following standard legal procedures, a post-mortem examination was conducted to establish the cause of death and determine whether the victim was alive at the time the vehicle was set on fire. After the examination, the body was handed over to the family for last rites. Police officials stated that forensic reports and post-mortem findings will play a crucial role in reconstructing the sequence of events leading up to the murder and in identifying the method used by the perpetrators.

Police Probe Motive, Suspects, and Sequence of Events

Investigators are currently probing multiple angles, including personal enmity, professional disputes, and other possible motives behind the killing. Officers are analysing call detail records, movement patterns, and any available technical or circumstantial evidence that could help trace the victim’s last known movements. Authorities have not ruled out the involvement of more than one person, given the nature of the crime and the effort involved in executing it. Police sources said further details will emerge as the investigation progresses and evidence is examined.
