YSR Congress Party president and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has strongly criticised the demolition of 42 houses in Bhawanipuram’s Jojinagar area of Vijayawada, terming the action deeply unfortunate and legally questionable. He alleged that the demolitions were carried out without due consideration of existing court orders, raising serious concerns over adherence to the rule of law.
Displaced Families Narrate Plight at Tadepalli Party Office
Following the demolition drive, several affected families reportedly reached the YSRCP party office in Tadepalli, where they narrated their ordeal to YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and party leaders. He described the situation as distressing, noting that families who lost their homes were forced onto the streets without adequate safeguards or rehabilitation measures.
Assurance of Legal Support to Affected Residents
Expressing solidarity with the victims, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy assured the displaced families that the party would stand by them and provide necessary legal assistance. He stated that all possible steps would be taken to ensure the affected residents receive proper representation and that their grievances are pursued through appropriate judicial forums.
Concerns Over Governance and Due Process
YS Jagan Mohan Reddy emphasised that any demolition or eviction must strictly adhere to legal procedures, particularly when court directions are involved. He warned that ignoring judicial orders undermines democratic governance and erodes public trust in institutions. He reiterated that development initiatives must not come at the cost of justice and constitutional protections.
Call for Accountability and Immediate Review
The former Chief Minister called for accountability from the authorities responsible for the demolition and demanded a thorough review of the action. He urged the government to explain the circumstances under which the houses were demolished and to ensure relief and rehabilitation for the affected families.
Commitment to Protecting Housing and Civil Rights
Reaffirming his stand, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy stated that the YSR Congress Party will continue to raise its voice against actions that threaten housing rights and civil liberties. He reiterated the party’s commitment to safeguarding the rights of the poor and marginalised and ensuring that governance remains rooted in legality, compassion, and accountability.
