Farmers across Andhra Pradesh are facing one of the most severe agricultural crises in recent years, with steep price crashes affecting major crops and leaving growers without financial relief or policy support. The longstanding resilience of farming communities is now under threat as many have begun to destroy their crops, unable to recover production costs or secure compensation. Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has raised a powerful voice demanding urgent action from the state government, calling the situation an alarming failure of governance.

Sharp Price Collapse and No Procurement Support

Prices of maize, banana, chilli, cotton, tobacco, coconut, onion, mango and cereals have fallen drastically. Farmers expected intervention through procurement and MSP stabilisation, but no action has been taken at ground level. Instead of addressing direct economic distress, attention has shifted to media-driven programmes and announcements lacking real implementation.

Input Subsidies Withheld; Crop Insurance Scrapped

Farmers are still waiting for the ₹600 crore input subsidy withheld despite repeated crop losses due to natural disasters. The removal of crop insurance has left farmers vulnerable without any financial safety net. Many families dependent solely on agriculture are now burdened with debt, forced to abandon their harvests.

Administrative Failure in Crisis Response

Despite farmers destroying crops out of hopelessness, no emergency review meetings or relief packages have been announced. Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy criticised the administration for conducting teleconferences to claim participation numbers rather than solving real issues. When farmers expected support, governance responded with silence and publicity messaging.

Breakdown of Earlier Protection Mechanisms

Structured reforms like RBKs, e-Crop monitoring, CMAPP and direct procurement that once ensured transparency and fair pricing have been dismantled. Farmers are again left dependent on middlemen and brokers, losing both revenue and dignity.

Call for Accountability and Real Action

Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy demanded:

  • Immediate release of pending input subsidy
  • Restoration of crop insurance and compensation coverage
  • MSP-linked procurement to stabilise prices
  • Transparent systems to prevent exploitation
  • Disaster-loss compensation without delay

Agriculture remains the backbone of Andhra Pradesh’s economy, and its survival depends on responsible governance. It is not speeches or events that protect farmers, but timely and decisive action. Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy continues to lead the call for justice, ensuring that farmers’ voices are heard and their struggle is acknowledged. Andhra Pradesh must prioritise farmers over political optics for the future of rural livelihoods.
