Women’s welfare has emerged as a central priority in Goa’s public policy planning, with focused reforms being implemented under the leadership of Vishwajit Rane, Minister for Women & Child Development and Health. By advancing key financial and social empowerment schemes, Rane has worked to reinforce the economic stability and dignity of women across both urban and rural regions of Goa.

His efforts include the expansion and strengthening of important initiatives such as the Griha Aadhar Scheme, Laadli Laxmi Scheme, and assistance for Self-Help Groups (SHGs), which collectively aim to provide long-term welfare support, improve access to opportunities, and promote inclusive development.

Laadli Laxmi Scheme: Ensuring Dignity, Education, and Social Security

The Laadli Laxmi Scheme remains a transformative support system for young women in Goa, offering substantial financial assistance for education or marriage-related expenses, especially benefiting middle- and lower-income families.

The scheme reflects Rane’s commitment to building a society that supports daughters with respect and opportunity, reducing financial barriers that can restrict education or force early marriage choices due to economic pressure.

This initiative promotes stronger educational outcomes and gender equity, setting a foundation for lifelong empowerment and social mobility.

Empowering Women Through Self-Help Groups (SHGs)

Under Rane’s direction, the state has intensified support for Self-Help Groups, enabling women to build independent livelihoods and gain access to funding, loans, training, and fair marketplace opportunities.

Through improved government facilitation and financial linkages, SHGs are progressing from small collectives to structured entrepreneurial platforms—strengthening rural and semi-urban economies, generating employment and fostering leadership among women.

Driving Inclusive and Sustainable Growth in Goa

Vishwajit Rane has consistently emphasised that women’s empowerment is not only a welfare objective but an economic development imperative. By enabling financial independence and securing social rights, the government is investing in long-term sustainable growth that benefits families, communities, and future generations.

Alongside economic support, health and safety measures under the Women & Child Development Department ensure integrated support systems, signalling a model for holistic welfare policy that other states can emulate.

The strengthening of the Griha Aadhar, Laadli Laxmi and SHG assistance programs highlights Vishwajit Rane’s strategic focus on building an inclusive and equitable governance framework for women in Goa. The vision combines financial empowerment, education access, entrepreneurship expansion, and dignity-centered support—reinforcing the state’s commitment to social welfare and grassroots progress.
