YS Avinash Reddy, Member of Parliament from Kadapa and a senior YSRCP leader, continues to be one of the strongest voices for accessible and quality public education in Andhra Pradesh. During the YSRCP government from 2019 to 2024, he actively supported and highlighted the transformative Mana Badi Nadu-Nedu programme that refurbished nearly 30,000 government schools statewide, including hundreds in Kadapa district, by providing modern classrooms, digital learning facilities, English-medium curriculum, improved toilets, drinking water, furniture, and overall infrastructure upgrades worth thousands of crores. He also effectively utilized MPLADS funds to further develop school infrastructure, digital classrooms, and college facilities within his Lok Sabha constituency, directly benefiting thousands of students from rural and underprivileged backgrounds.

Pioneering Expansion of Government Medical Education

Avinash Reddy was a vocal advocate for the establishment of 17 new government medical colleges during the YSRCP tenure — the highest number added by any state in a single term. This included the Pul普通的vendula Government Medical College in his home district, which received National Medical Commission (NMC) approval for 50 MBBS seats and was nearing completion before the change of government. These colleges were created specifically to provide affordable, quality medical education to meritorious students from poor and rural families, continuing the pro-poor legacy of the YSR family.

Current Agitation: Protecting Public Medical Colleges from Privatization

YS Avinash Reddy is leading YSRCP’s statewide agitation against the TDP government’s decision to privatize 10 government medical colleges under the public-private partnership (PPP) model. He organized a massive rally in Pulivendula — the political stronghold of the YSR family — and launched a 1-crore signature campaign under the “Praja Garjana” banner, warning that privatization will push medical education beyond the reach of poor students by escalating fees dramatically. He has accused the government of shifting equipment from Pulivendula Medical College to other districts and termed the move as political vendetta against the YSR family’s achievements.

A Consistent Commitment to Pro-Poor Education

From championing English-medium education and digital classrooms in government schools to fighting for the retention of public medical colleges, Avinash Reddy has remained steadfast in his mission to ensure that education — from primary level to professional courses — remains a right and not a privilege. His efforts through MPLADS, campaign advocacy for Nadu-Nedu, and current leadership in the anti-privatization movement reflect a deep-rooted commitment to social justice and empowerment of the underprivileged.

Call for Accountability and Protection of Public Assets

Avinash Reddy has vowed that YSRCP will continue its struggle through public mobilization, legal routes, and awareness campaigns until the privatization plan is completely withdrawn. He emphasized that the 17 government medical colleges built with public money must serve the poor and meritorious, not become profit centers for private players.
