Pulivendula Medical College Equipment Shift Criticised by YS Avinash Reddy

YSRCP MP YS Avinash Reddy has strongly criticised the TDP government over its decision to shift advanced medical equipment from the Pulivendula Government Medical College and teaching hospital to Guntur and Kurnool. Calling the move politically motivated, he described it as a direct attack on the rights of local residents and the future of government healthcare in Rayalaseema.

Government accused of ‘targeting Pulivendula’

Speaking to the media, Avinash Reddy stated that the modern equipment was procured during the YSRCP government to support new medical courses and improve district-level healthcare facilities. He questioned why Pulivendula was singled out when the state has several other medical colleges.

According to him, the government had previously written to the National Medical Commission rejecting approval for starting classes at Pulivendula Medical College. “Now equipment is being moved out. Why target Pulivendula again?” he asked.

Protests against PPP model

The YSRCP has launched statewide protests against the government’s decision to privatize 10 government-run medical colleges under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model.
Avinash Reddy warned that this model will increase fees, restrict admissions, and make medical treatment unaffordable for rural and economically weaker families.

Healthcare experts have also raised similar concerns, stating that PPP-based hospitals may prioritize profit over public service, reducing access for low-income patients.

Allegations of political vendetta

According to Avinash Reddy, instead of strengthening rural healthcare infrastructure, the focus of the TDP government appears to be on shifting equipment, altering previous decisions, and targeting Pulivendula as a political centre.
He stated that people in Rayalaseema deserve access to modern medical services and should not be punished due to political rivalry.

Demand for reversal of orders

Avinash Reddy urged local leaders and public representatives in Kadapa to oppose the transfer orders and demand immediate restoration of equipment to Pulivendula Medical College.
He said the people of the region fought for the establishment of the medical college and will not tolerate attempts to weaken it.

Political reaction continues

The issue has sparked strong reactions across political circles. YSRCP leaders accuse the government of weakening government hospitals, while TDP leaders defend the PPP model as financially beneficial.
Meanwhile, medical students and citizens have demanded transparency in decisions affecting teaching hospitals and rural districts.
