IMD Issues Yellow Alert in Andhra Pradesh as Heavy Rains Continue

The India Meteorological Department has placed Andhra Pradesh under a yellow alert, forecasting heavy rain, thunderstorms and lightning across several districts. The alert forms part of a wider forecast for southern India, as multiple weather systems continue to influence rainfall activity across the region. With monsoon-like conditions extending into November, authorities have urged people to remain cautious, especially in low-lying and flood-prone zones.

Southern States Record Continued Rainfall

According to IMD data, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka are expected to experience widespread rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and squalls. While heavy rainfall is predicted in multiple coastal and interior areas of Andhra Pradesh, no major alert has been issued for neighbouring Kerala. The IMD noted that southern India typically receives significant rainfall during the final quarter of the year, and this week’s pattern aligns with seasonal expectations.

Above-Normal Rainfall Likely in Andhra Pradesh

The weather bulletin also indicated that overall rainfall in Andhra Pradesh during November is expected to remain slightly above the normal level. Meteorologists attribute this trend to active systems over the Bay of Bengal and the coastal belt, which continue to generate moisture and influence cloud formation. This latest warning comes after the state experienced intermittent heavy showers in recent weeks, causing waterlogging in several urban stretches.

Public Safety Measures and Advisory

With the yellow alert in effect, district administrations have been advised to prepare for localised flooding, disrupted power supply and delays in transport. Fishermen in coastal areas have also been cautioned about strong winds and rough sea conditions. Emergency services and disaster management teams have been placed on standby to respond to weather-related incidents.

Temperature Drop Expected Across India

While southern states receive rainfall, IMD data shows that minimum temperatures are likely to fall across central and northern India. Many regions are expected to witness a noticeable dip, signalling the onset of winter conditions. The contrast in weather patterns reflects the seasonal transition taking place across the country.

With rainfall expected to continue across parts of Andhra Pradesh, authorities have reiterated the importance of adhering to weather advisories and avoiding vulnerable areas during storms. The IMD will continue monitoring conditions and issue updated alerts as the situation develops. As the state prepares for more rainfall in the coming weeks, the immediate priority remains public safety and disaster readiness.
