An intense heat wave has gripped north India, with Delhi, the national capital, under a ‘red’ alert for Tuesday. Temperatures soared to a scorching 45.2 degrees Celsius on Monday, impacting the entire region. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts some relief from June 19, with expected thunderstorms and light rain due to an approaching weather disturbance.

The severe water crisis in Delhi continues to exacerbate the situation, drawing criticism of the ruling AAP from opposition parties BJP and Congress. Other regions, including Uttar Pradesh, are also expected to face severe heatwave conditions until June 19, with similar conditions anticipated in Himachal Pradesh and Bihar until June 18.

In contrast, Chennai and nearby areas in the south experienced overnight rains, providing much-needed relief from the sweltering heat. The IMD has maintained the ‘red’ alert for Delhi, with maximum temperatures expected to hit 45 degrees Celsius.
