Amid recent attacks on Indian students studying in the United States, US Ambassador to India, Eric Garcetti, encouraged students to stay alert and use safety measures. He emphasized the importance of staying connected with peers and using campus safety resources.
In a recent interview with ANI, Garcetti recognized the troubling incidents involving Indian students. He explained that while such incidents can occur statistically in a large country like the US, it’s essential for students to stay vigilant and take necessary safety precautions.
“First and foremost, any families, and I’ve talked to some of those families who have faced a tragedy with their own son or daughter. I mean, our hearts go out. We take the justice issues very seriously of bringing to justice any perpetrators with, you know, a quarter million now a year, statistically, this is going to happen. But that’s not acceptable to a parent if it happens to your child,” Garcetti stated.
Garcetti assures accountability: US will hold perpetrators responsible. He offers condolences and stresses the government’s commitment to justice. Advises Indian students to stay vigilant, know safe areas, and follow travel advice. Urges group travel, staying connected, and avoiding risky behavior. Encourages use of campus safety resources. With 2,45,000 Indian students in the US yearly, safety is a top concern. Garcetti addresses safety perceptions, noting decreasing crime rates despite challenges.
