PM Modi Praises Sandeshkhali Survivor Rekha Patra, BJP’s Basirhat Candidate, as ‘Symbol of Strength’

In a big political move, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has chosen Rekha Patra as its candidate from the Basirhat area in West Bengal for the Lok Sabha elections. Patra is one of the women who survived violence in the Sandeshkhali region of the state. She was the first to file a case about what happened in Sandeshkhali.

PM Modi asked Patra about her Basirhat campaign and support for BJP. She also narrated the ordeal of Sandeshkhali victims.

“You fought a big battle in Sandeshkhali, you are a Shakti Swaroopa. You sent such powerful people to jail. You have pulled off a very courageous act,” the prime minister said in the telephonic conversation with Patra.

On her candidature from Basirhat, Patra says, “I want to thank PM Modi for the candidature (from Basirhat for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls). I will raise my voice for the Sandeshkhali victims

Amidst the Sandeshkhali controversy, the Trinamool Congress has made a significant decision regarding the Basirhat Lok Sabha seat. MP Nusrat Jahan, previously nominated for the candidacy, has been withdrawn by the party. In her place, Nurul Islam has been selected as the new candidate to contest for the seat.
