West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has severed ties with her younger brother Swapan Banerjee following his objection to the Trinamool Congress’s decision to nominate Prasun Banerjee from the Howrah Lok Sabha constituency.
Expressing her decision, Mamata Banerjee stated, “I do not consider him a member of our family anymore. From today onwards, no one will introduce him as my brother.” She emphasized that Prasun Banerjee, an Arjuna Award winner, was the party’s chosen candidate.
Swapan Banerjee, also known as Babun Banerjee, criticized Prasun Banerjee’s nomination, labeling it as the “worst possible choice.” He refuted rumors of joining the BJP, affirming his support for Mamata Banerjee.
Prasun Banerjee, a former footballer and two-time Trinamool Congress MP, is among the party’s candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. The Trinamool Congress introduced new faces while dropping some sitting MPs, including actor Nusrat Jahan, in its list of candidates.
Mamata Banerjee’s decision to disown her brother highlights the internal rift within the party over candidate selection, signaling a significant development ahead of the polls.
