A group of 112 Hindu pilgrims crossed the Attari land border into Pakistan on Wednesday for Mahashivaratri celebrations at the Katasraj temples. Saad Ahmad Warraish, a Pakistan government official, mentioned that visas were issued for the visit from March 6 to 12. The journey is seen as a cultural exchange and a symbol of mutual respect. Authorities from both countries are ensuring the safety and comfort of the pilgrims during this significant pilgrimage, fostering understanding and friendship.

The pilgrims are set to stay at Gurdwara Dera Sahib, Lahore Fort, before heading to the historic Katas Raj temple in Punjab province’s Chakwal district, located about 250 kilometers away. Their journey on Monday will coincide with the Maha Shivratri festivities on March 7.

Sateesh Kumar, the leader of the visiting Hindu pilgrims, expressed gratitude for the full cooperation extended by the local authorities. He shared, “We are impressed by the warmth and support of the Pakistani people. There should be friendly relations between our neighboring countries as both nations desire peace and prosperity in the region.”

The pilgrims also enthusiastically chanted slogans promoting friendship between Pakistan and India at the Wagah Border.

Farooq, mentioning a special directive from Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, assured that the Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB) has taken special measures to ensure the security, transportation, accommodation, and medical facilities for the visiting Hindu pilgrims.
