In a distressing turn of events, a man in Uttar Pradesh Shahjahanpur set himself on fire outside a police station, reportedly in frustration over the lack of action on his complaint regarding the theft of his pick-up van.
The incident unfolded as the man, identified as Tahir Ali, allegedly used petrol to ignite himself, prompting police personnel present at the station to intervene and rescue him.
According to the man’s family, their vehicle was stolen six months ago, and despite filing a complaint with the police, no significant action was taken.
A video capturing the harrowing act circulated online, showing bystanders and police attempting to extinguish the flames and provide assistance to the victim.
Shahjahanpur Superintendent of Police, Ashok Meena, confirmed the incident and stated that Tahir Ali has been admitted to a hospital for treatment. He assured that a thorough investigation is underway to determine the circumstances leading to the drastic action taken by the victim.
“We will take strict action against those responsible for any lapses,” Mr. Meena assured, emphasizing the seriousness with which the authorities are treating the matter.
