Dwarka, Gujarat : In a historic moment set to redefine connectivity and boost tourism in Gujarat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is all set to inaugurate the breathtaking Sudarshan Setu bridge, also known as the Okha-Beyt Dwarka Signature Bridge, on Sunday, February 25, 2024. This iconic structure, a testament to modern engineering prowess, promises to transform the region's landscape and enhance accessibility for pilgrims and tourists alike. Designed to captivate the imagination, Sudarshan Setu boasts a visually striking design featuring steel pylons and cables arranged in a fan-like pattern, making it an instant landmark in Dwarka. Connecting the mainland town of Okha with the picturesque Beyt Dwarka island, previously accessible only by boat, this bridge will significantly reduce travel time and enhance connectivity, facilitating smoother pilgrimages and tourist experiences. With a total width of 27.2 meters (89 ft), including two lanes in each direction and 2.5 meters (8 ft) wide footpaths on both sides, Sudarshan Setu ensures seamless traffic flow while accommodating pedestrians. The bridge spans a total length of 2.8 kilometers (9,186 ft), featuring three spans, including a remarkable 500-meter-long middle span, the longest in India, and six additional spans with lengths ranging from 50 to 500 meters. Supported by two majestic A-shaped composite pylons standing at a towering height of 129.985 meters, with a radius of 300 meters leaning in the backspan up to 22 meters from the center of the pylon, Sudarshan Setu is a testament to cutting-edge engineering and architectural brilliance. The construction of this groundbreaking bridge, approved by Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari in 2016, marks a significant milestone in the region's infrastructure development. Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for this transformative project on October 7, 2017, setting the stage for its completion. With an estimated cost of ₹962 crore, Sudarshan Setu aims to benefit approximately 8,500 residents living on Beyt Dwarka island and accommodate around two million pilgrims visiting the revered temples in the area. As the nation eagerly awaits the inauguration of Sudarshan Setu, it heralds a new era of connectivity, accessibility, and architectural marvel in Gujarat, promising to leave a lasting legacy for generations to come. #nationalgossip
